Adult learning programme

Status: on the run

In the summer of 2024, we launched adult education. The reason was simple: progress had reached the bush as well, and it had not bothered to ask whether anyone had invited it. Roads, phones, offices, traders, money and, now and then, fraudsters – all of it is much easier to handle when a person can read, write and count well enough not to be cheated at the first available opportunity.
The project grew directly out of the community, in cooperation with the local leadership and the teacher Msabaha. The first lesson took place at the school in Mbogoi, with eight adult students attending. Gradually, interest grew to around twenty people. On paper, it is not a large project. In real life, it is very concrete help in a very concrete place. And when adults in the Tanzanian bush voluntarily sit down at school desks to wrestle with the alphabet and the little multiplication table, Jan Amos Comenius would surely have wept with joy.
You can read more details about how we did it in our blog.
